This was truly a different experience to how usual cadet weekend courses run. Joining the air cadet organisation, we did not think that we would get the opportunity to stay on a retired Type 82 destroyer. During this 3 day weekend, we got insight into an active Navy base and got to stay on board the ship. As well as coming away with a variety of different qualifications, it was a great experience to be surrounded in all the Navy history on board the ship; to have the summer camp atmosphere in one weekend; and meet all the fellow cadets from all over Thames Valley Wing, getting together and having a great time during our free evenings, exploring the ship. It was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us.
